Mark,

First, thanks for making DDR Menu. I am using it for a church website (or at least I want to). I installed the module using the host console. I checked the web.config file and the DDRMenu NavigationControl is there. I made the changes to the SOLPARTMENU Register declaration on the ascx file for my skin I am working on for the site. Everything seems in order.

When i go to the page, I get the following:

ActiveTabID: 159
ActiveTabName: New Skin Test
RawURL: /cotr/Default.aspx?tabid=159&error=Object+reference+not+set+to+an+instance+of+an+object.&content=0

I would gladly send you a copy of my ascx file and web.config but I cannot find the support email address on the forum site.

Appreciate any help you can provide me because our site needs better SEO.

Thanks in advance,

Dennis

Hi Dennis, it certainly looks like a problem with registering the navigation provider. You can email the config and ascx files to support@dnngarden.com if you want me to check them.

Mark,

The files are sent and I look forward to learning what the issue is. I would like to learn more about DNN as I am very new to this and am doing this for my church's website.

Thanks again.

Dennis

Mark,

Before you dig too deep into this, I think the issue just cleared itself.

I am wondering if the problem was not caused by the fact that once the DDRMenu extension is installed the server needs to be restarted? I don't know in fact that there was a restart of my server by my host but I can tell you the following steps were taken

  • Installed Module
  • Updated skin aspx file
  • Verified DDRMenu NavigationControl entry was in web config
  • Went to site home page - got error about Object reference issue
  • Went to forum after checking install again
  • Posted entry and reverted all change in .aspx file so site would work

Now two days later, I again updated the Register line in my .aspx file so I could send it to you as it was. After I sent it, I thought, what the heck, lets just go to the home page for my site and verify the error still occurs. To my surprise, I can see that mousing over the menu shows the page URLs in the status line and there is no object reference error. This can only mean that DDRMenu is working.

So, the only thing I can think is maybe my host restarts the webservers nightly or something that commits the web.config changes to the instance of DNN in memory for my site.

Thanks for your time and effort again. A great product and I promise as soon as my church is able, we will make a donation for your product and support.

Blessings to you.

Dennis

Hi Dennis, thanks for coming back to me with that, gives me something to chew on! Obviously some ISPs must have things set up somehow so the application doesn't automatically restart when the config is updated.
